Summary
As with my fortunate misfortune with Game Development, my art project has suffered this month due to the beginning of the Holiday Season. If you’re in any sort of commercial business, I don’t envy you! All this hassle with the Halloweens and Christmases… It gets hectic, to say the least.
I did learn, however, that it would be good for me to start taking screens related to the different stages of my project, as it is quite difficult to document things like my evolution from rounded leaf bundles to bigger clusters without them. That being said, during the past month I have come to the conclusion that bushes, not trees and their bark, are the hard part. At least I managed to adjust the colors of the trees this month…
From stamp to stamp
I am such a cop-out, I have to admit. I love patterns and repetition, predictability. The problem is, when I use a stamp that would be great for a small bush in a huge area for a big bush… Things don’t turn out that great.
With a stamp I mean, of course, the ability in Aseprite to make your own brush from a drawing. It just turns out that someone like me, who is used to 16×16 style art before taking on this enormous project, has trouble scaling it up.
Details, Details
I still struggle with my own voice and the cacophony of details that I seem hell-bent on putting in. It took me eons to figure out the whole tree situation, and the bushes are no different. I do think though, that I’ve managed to get to a point where I can call the bush in the front ‘first draft’. Don’t ask about the other bushes, This whole thing has turned into my personal purgatory more or less.
What’s next?
Well, there’s the grass and the other bushes. Then, there is the polishing and effects that need to be done before this thing can fly the coop. I would be lying if I didn’t say that this project may have been a bit more than I can chew, but I will finish it, eventually. Once it is done, I will have learned a great many things about both myself and art.
That being said, Forest Pond will have to wait, as I have my writing WIP that takes priority over the rest. Beyond that, there are translations that help the home by providing income. Ah life, riddled with tasks and synergies that need to be put in place, no matter how our souls burn to do other things. I suppose that’s what maturing means, no?
