I don’t often promote things, and when I do, it is usually related to other people’s creations or VanaVerse. Today, however, I will practice a little bit of self-promotion (in preparation for the book publishing). I’ve finally made an account to showcase my Art on Instagram!
Sorry, come again?
I’ve opened up an account on Instagram to showcase my art. The things you’ll find there are mostly pixel art or other digital things in my repertoire. It is still in its sprouting stages, but more and more pictures will soon join the gallery… I’ve made it a nearly daily practice to pump out something small.
I already have some things lined up, and I have quite a catalog of art that I have made over the years. There’s art for the blog, things for the Twitch channel we ran, as well as creatures from my stories. I even welcome suggestions and challenges on occasion! I think you’ll enjoy seeing this other side of my creative self.
Why did I do it?
In all honesty, it was about time I started sharing my art with the world. Now that I have found my preferred style, pixel art, it’s all the more rewarding to showcase my progress online. And evolve I shall. I’m committed to bettering this skill of mine as life goes on.
My husband has also been suggesting I do this for quite some time and so, I finally took his advice! I really should listen to him more, I think.
What does art mean to me?
Art is a way of relaxing. Especially in the pixel realm, where things just seem to click into place effortlessly as I learn new tricks. Art is a way for me to express things I may not be able to put into words. It helps me calm down after a hard day, and to help me visualize various things in my written projects.
Why Pixels?
Before my tech-savvy husband showed me the amazing world of software, I dappled in drawing and watercolors. I have a portfolio in the closet, containing dozens of pictures related to my moods, stories, and more. It was always difficult for me to nail the intricacies of classic art and the proportions at least somewhat correct. All the hands and feet of my humanoids are hidden, never to be seen again.
And then I came across Pixels, as my husband needed some asteroids as assets for his game-making research. I was instantly taken in by the style.
There is just something about the symmetry, the low resolution, and the unforgiving nature of one pixel being off. The magic of being able to tell a story in a minimal way is just breathtaking. And it seems to fit my artistic identity perfectly. I’m actually working on making my writing more simplified as well, so the two forms of expression go in tandem.
When I open Aseprite (a glorious suggestion from the VanaVersians over on Twitch) the initial signs of a trance begin. The pixels start taking shape under my watchful eye. The flow I get into rivals the one I get into while I write!
So go ahead, take a peek, and let me know what you think of Mrs. Vana’s Pixel Art Gallery!
